First Graders Spread Christmas Cheer
Hurray for GES First Graders who performed some Christmas favorites for residents at Benchmark Healthcare of Greenville!
Bearytones: A MALLvelous performance!
On December 14th our elementary choir, the Bearytones traveled to West Park Mall in Cape Girardeau to perform in their holiday concert series. They were fabulous! Several strangers stopped me in the mall later to compliment this talented group. Way to go Bearytones!

Jingle Bell Ponies
In Kindergarten music we have worked on identifying the form of some familiar songs. When we identify form we look for patterns and then label some of the sections we hear as A or B or C and so on. This week we listened to Jingle Bells (I like the one from the Elf soundtrack.) and discovered that it basically had two parts. We called the "Dashing through the snow..." part "A" and the chorus or "Jingle Bells" part as "B".
On the A section we marched to the beat on our Christmas ponies.
On the B section we played the jingles to the beat.

Drumming with "Trepak" from the Nutcracker
Fa la la la laaaa! Sixth graders have become little drummer boys and girls with this holiday piece. We reviewed rhythms and wrote some patterns of our own and then we learned a little drumming routine. It was a blast!
We use plastic coffee cans for drums and tubs with rope handles for our bass drums. We can ALWAYS use more drums, so send in your plastic coffee cans!
Links for Teachers
I've received a few requests for links to some of the resources I may pull from to use at the worksheet workstation. This really depends on the concept and age group that I'm working with. Here are a few resources that I use:
The Amazing Music Activities Book: Ideas and Exercises for Exploring: Music Basics, Ear Training, Music Styles, and Famous Composers
Ready-To-Use Music Activities Kit
Basic Music Theory: Unit 1 (Music Curriculum Activities Library)
I would also recommend anything by Brian Weese. Like Perplexing Puzzles: 26 Reproducible Worksheets Perfect for the Elementary Music Teacher or Substitute or Music Fundamentals: 44 Games That Teach Melodic and Rhythmic Concepts
