Star Spangled Banner Stations

Third Graders have started their Star Spangled Banner unit.  For the next couple of weeks they will be working in cooperative groups and cycling through various workstations.  By the end of this unit, students will be able to sing the national anthem from memory, recall key elements of the history of our national anthem and be able to define vocabulary from the lyrics like "perilous" and "ramparts".
The listening station has several examples of our national anthem.  These boys are listening to Jimi Hendrix's version.

  1. I love your SSB stations, I tried to develop something like this last year. What exactly are the reading/working on in each of the blue folders?

  2. You can get more info and even download the workstations at this link:

  3. Mrs. King,

How long were the students at each work station? I just purchased your SSB kit over the holidays. It looks great!

  4. We spent about 12 minutes at each station. This is MORE than enough for some stations and not quite enough for others. This is why I have them keep their papers and we finish at the close of our centers unit. The transition from station to station took a couple of minutes at first, but as they got used to it we could transition in less than a minute from one to the next. Hope this helps!
