Beat Buddies Help Keep the Steady Beat

I found some brand new Beanie Babies at a yard sale a few weeks ago and immediately knew what I wanted to do with them.  Introducing BEAT BUDDIES!  These cuddly critters help Kindergarteners find the steady beat.  We bounce them on our laps, our head, our shoulders and our hands to keep the beat together.

Beat Buddies are fun to use and help learning a skill with repetition more interesting!

If you have new or like new Beanie Babies that need a new home we would love to use them as Beat Buddies.  Contact Mrs. King or drop them by one of the elementary buildings.

  1. We use "Beat Buddies" as well.. a little song...
Tune: SSDDDRM, DRM, DRM, SSDDDRM, DRMRD
Words: Can you tap them on your head, on your head, on your head, can you tap them on your head, tap them on your knee.
Rhythm: Ti-ti, ti-ti, ti-ti ta, ti-ti, ta, ti-ti, ta, ti-ti, ti-ti, ti-ti, ta, ti-ti, ta, ta, ta. Change to knee, then other body parts, then we change to having the buddies hop on our knee, shoulder, etc. Sometimes the buddies even swim, dance, get funky, etc. Hope you can use this!

    1. Thanks. I was surprised at how much they liked this. I'm wondering what else I can do with these little critters. :-)

  3. Expand Brown Bear, Brown Bear, what do you see? Go around the circle using the beanies instead of what's in the book. Tune on sol-mi or sol-la-mi, or whatever you are working on...

  4. Use the Parachute and Old McDonald, each child gets to pitch a Farm Animal on, or Jungle Animal etc.

I also use the Greg and Steve (Sorry, I've had it so long I'm no longer sure that's right) Bean Bag songs. "Put your Bean Bag on your Head, Put your Bean Bag on your Knee" etc songs. The children love to see which animal they get as I pass them out. It is also a lesson in Body Awareness for younger children as well as balance and listening. Check YouTube for the Bean Bag Songs.

  5. I use them with older students to practice pitch names on my staff rug. Most of my beanies start with only letters a to g (alligator, bear, cat, dog, elephant, frog, goat).
