Music Centers for After Testing Season

Finally!  Testing season is over!  I planned a non-stressful, fun day of music center activities for WES 4th, 5th and 6th graders.  Students had a great time practicing some basic music skills and working with their classmates.  Here's what we did:
Bop-It:  I love this game!  Students used the "vox box" option so that they passed the Bop-It after four measures.  This center let students practice their rhythm skills as well as improving hand-eye coordination.

Candy Land:  This version lets students review the names of music symbols as well as sing and dance to get ahead on the board.
The Cup Game:  Students worked together to see how long they could keep the cup game's pattern going.  Its much tougher than you might think!
Encore:  This singing game had students singing back and forth at each other to see who could remember lyrics from the most songs.  Fun!

Talking Gina (iPad Center):  Working alone or with a partner, students utilized the Talking Gina app to practice rhythm skills.

  1. This looks like such fun! As a new reader, do you have all of your station resources in a local place, or do you just make them up as you go? I would love to get some of those for my classroom, but I'm not entirely sure how you used them!

  2. The hand held Bop-it games are sold at places like Wal-Mart, Target, etc... There are several varieties (even tiny ones) and they all come with the option to play and pass.

Encore is a board game. At this center I choose not to use the board part, just the song cards as the students would be unable to complete the game in the 12ish minutes they had at each station.

Candyland is just the board game that I adapted to have music symbols, etc... I hope to one day put up a description of it. :-) Some day when life settles down...

The iPad app is called Talking Gina and you can find it on iTunes.

The cup game is an activity that i taught them earlier in the year. There are several "how to" videos on YouTube that can teach you the moves.

There are Christmas workstations and Star Spangled Banner Workstations at this link that I created. I use the SSB ones every year! Love them!

  3. I am so excited to see that you are using a Bop-It!! I was going to do a centers day, for the class that received the most behavior points from August through December, and was wanting to incorporate a Bop-It. If you don't mind, what do have written on your instruction sheet for the Bop-It station?
